Ealanta Loch Abair involves a range of interpretations of regional life over a broad spectrum of medium and subject matter.
Each artist has his/her own style: David Wilson and Andrew Stewart both capture the majesty of the surroundings and their often tumultuous skies; Jamie Hageman's work is an example of photographic realism, being an experienced mountaineer allows him to paint from seldom-visited viewpoints showing the different facets of well-known peaks, while Anna Raven explores the moods of th country through bold shapes and colours. John Hodgson, a wood turner, takes the physical beauty of locally sourced wood to create wooden sculptures while Alan B. Hayman's paintings document the thriving abundance of local wildlife.
Delving deeper into the customs and traditionsof local culture artists such as Andrew Sinclair, Gail Wendorf, Alistair Smyth and James MacCallum individually explore the human aspects of life in the West Highlands. Andrew Sinclair's chiaroscuro dramatisations bring to life past encounters with unique individuals and characters of the area. Gail Wendorf, who is also inspired by the region's people, recreates the intimiate and atmospheric scenes of pub lock-ins and musical jam sessions. Alistair Smyth's illustrative paintings retell historic stories and anecdotes from the West Highlands. In addition James Maccallum work explores the human condition, its varied cultures and civilisations and attempts to manipulate, what he believes to be the essential ingredients of this human condition into a pictorial language.
